On the afternoon of March.14th, the first day of the new semester, the conference of science and engineering department was held on the Yan Chang Campus. Directors from respective department, key laboratory and research s\centre attended the meeting.

The conference started with deputy president Wang Ming’s report on scientific and technological advances of our university in 2006. Led by the college committee and president Qian, the research work achieved great success by relying on the wisdom, courage and energy of the faculty. Numbers of new projects erected by the National Natural Foundation increased dramatically, with total research funds exceeding 400 million. Great breakthrough was made in cultivating innovative research teams. The construction of the base was further strengthened, with the pattern of integration of multiple key disciplines taking shape. The number of papers collected by Three Major Index grew constantly. And the same is with application for patents and authority. We have conducted extensive academic and research cooperation with foreign organization. The integration of industry, teaching and research should develop deeply to enhance its overall competitiveness. Deputy President Wang’s report was constituted by refined words and vivid pictures, with practical data helping his demonstration, giving the attendants a clear view of our deficiency as well as achievements.

 Then Director Shi Liyi provided a great amount of information on scientific and technological assignment of 2007, including how to make a good start and existing problems, the guiding thought and concrete projects, construction of the base and social service., international cooperation and human resource project, the working strategy and measures on security, and particularly how to aim at demand, collect resources, focus on key points and strengthen communications.

Finally Deputy President Wang concluded that the development our university was at critical juncture which should be either advanced or backward. He emphasized that the science and research department will work actively to create a sound environment for the work of faculty and give full play to the incentive of respective departments. We should work hand in hand in promoting our university.
