Mr Shi was the present director of national key laboratory of scientific and engineering computation, board chairperson of national computational mathematics committee and chief scientist of the national project of mass scientific and engineering computation. Academician Shi had devoted much to finite element method and its application. His deep and systematic research on conforming element and non-conforming element achieved impressive theoretic and guiding significance to engineering computation, which impressed the world.

Mr Shi reported the newest findings in multiple grid method of finite element. The work advanced the solution of super mass system equation from both numerical analysis theory and practical computation, which provided an economical and efficient algorithm. It had a wide application in mass science and engineering computation and therefore had significant value. Multiple grid method was always a hot research project in the field of international scientific calculation. Mr Shi's lecture displayed its origin, historic development and current advance. His report raised the interest of the professors and students attended. Mr Shi also warmly answered their questions. His lecture gave us great inspiration and help in not only academic research but also in the spirit of scaling new heights of science.
